art saves the sea
reconciliation with nature

The contemporary art gallery Ursulastross proudly presents an extraordinary art project that will take place near Ibiza City, spanning an area of 50,000 square meters. This perfectly chosen location will host an open-air gallery featuring monumental sculptures by renowned artists, all available for purchase. The event will showcase various international artists and art collectives in the field of contemporary art, highlighting kinetic sculptures and works aimed at raising awareness about ocean conservation and environmental preservation. Together, these art pieces will form a stunning and immense installation within the sculpture park. Invited artists will be tasked with reflecting on these pressing ecological issues and expressing their perspectives through their creations.
The open-air gallery with its monumental sculptures is set to become a must-visit destination for art collectors, enthusiasts, and visitors to the beautiful island of Ibiza. Beyond its cultural impact, the project is anticipated to enhance the island’s appeal to tourists while promoting the conservation of its unique biodiversity.
The project will launch in April and September 2025 with artist-in-residence workshops and symposia centered around the theme of plastic pollution, with the overarching goal of safeguarding biodiversity. The first exhibitions in the open-air gallery will debut at the beginning of June 2025, with further displays continuing through late August. This sculpture park is expected to garner international attention, fostering sustainability, environmental preservation, and a global movement advocating for an eco-conscious lifestyle.
The primary aim of the sculpture park is to spotlight the critical issue of plastic waste in the Mediterranean Sea, particularly in the Balearic Islands. According to the World Economic Forum, 32% of the 78 million tons of plastic packaging produced annually ends up in the ocean—equivalent to one truckload of plastic being dumped into the sea every minute. Spain, along with 193 other nations, has signed the United Nations declaration against plastic pollution. This project aims to amplify and mediate support for the local government’s decision to reduce and eventually prohibit the use of plastic products on the islands, a policy originally targeted for implementation by 2023 but still requiring ongoing advocacy and awareness efforts.
By combining art and environmental activism, this initiative seeks to inspire change, support sustainability, and leave a lasting legacy that underscores the importance of preserving our oceans and planet.
